Like all great stories, this one begins long ago in a little place called Pretoria. A young man grew up in a world of bland flavors, unaware of the fiery passion that would one day change his life. That all shifted one fateful night in Hatfield, when a simple dinner stop turned into a rite of passage.
His Portuguese friend had a suggestion: “How about some Nando’s?” Challenge accepted. “You won’t be able to handle hot, it’s too spicy for you!” Unable to back down, he ordered extra hot. The next 45 minutes were spent crying over a chicken burger, his mouth ablaze, his pride in shambles. “Who would do this to themselves?” he gasped. And yet, the smoky, garlicky, lemon-infused spice left an impression that would never fade.

A Fiery Calling
Years passed, and with countless heated experiences behind him, the boy became a man. A new chapter began as he traded the chaos of city life for the tranquility of Paradise Beach in the Eastern Cape. Yet something was missing. Spice was life, and no matter how many bottles of mild sauce he emptied, satisfaction remained out of reach. A void had formed—a craving for heat that nothing could fill.
Then, destiny intervened. Enter the pandemic, and with it, a home hydroponic growing machine. After weeks of excitement sprouting every imaginable seed (don’t worry, he was terrible at it—only a lemon tree survived), he stumbled upon something unexpected: Ghost Pepper chili seeds. New to the world of chilies but eager to learn, he rushed home and planted them with hope.
Some plants died (okay, a lot), but eventually, life emerged! Weeks turned into months. Through rain and sun, he nurtured his precious plants until tiny flowers transformed into fiery little pods. What a feeling of accomplishment! What a reward! And what a burn!

The Legend of the Chili Sensei
As his obsession with chilies deepened, he discovered something incredible—there were thousands of chili varieties worldwide, each with its own unique heat and flavor. That’s when fate led him to Niel Jangle, a legend among chili enthusiasts and something of a mysterious chili sensei. Niel opened his eyes to the sheer diversity and magic of chilies. From the purest heirloom strains to the craziest crossbreeds, an entire universe of spice awaited exploration.
This discovery ignited a mission: to share this fiery joy with others and spread the love of exotic chilies.

A Fateful Meeting Over a Beer
Every great adventure has an unexpected ally. Enter “Fothers”—a name that would soon become legendary. Mark, a passionate young farmer from Thornhill, EC, was driven by a love for local, organic produce. But what really stood out? The hat.
Their first conversation was a turning point. Mark’s dedication to sustainable farming and high-quality produce was unmatched. The only thing he loved more than his chickens (kiep, kiep, kiep!) was his plants. Though our chili grower had spent years perfecting his craft, Mark’s natural farming approach outshone everything in his first attempt.
That’s when the penny dropped—what if we teamed up to bring the best chilies to the people? Not just any chilies, but rare, exotic varieties perfectly adapted to our climate and grown with care in Mark’s natural wonderland.
